 Frequently Asked Questions Minimize

Q. When is Honor Roll?

A.  First semester is traditionally held in January at 7:00 P.M.
Second semester is traditionally held in September at 7:00 P.M.

Q. What are the grade point thresholds for Honor Roll?

A. Many students and parents have asked questions about Honor Roll and the process for determining who is on Honor Roll. At Euclid, students who have a semester GPA (grade point average) of 3.0 to 3.49 receive a Letter of Achievement. Students who have a semester GPA of 3.5 to 4.0 earn a place on Honor Roll.

Q. How is GPA calculated?

A. GPA’s are determined by dividing the total amount of grade value times credit value of the class by the number of credits attempted. Grade value is based on an A worth 4 points, B = 3 points, C= 2 points, D= 1 point, F= 0. Please note there is no difference in grade value for an A+, A, or A-. F’s earn no credit.

Q. What many units or credits is each class?

A. Classes that meet for a semester have a credit value of 3.0. Therefore, all core classes (language arts, math, social studies and science) as well as semester long elective, music, language and PE classes are all 3.0 credit classes. Classes that meet for a quarter have a class credit value of 1.5. The 1.5 quarter classes include all sixth grade exploratories and sixth grade PE and music (because PE and music meet every other day), as well as all seventh grade exploratories. Music at seventh grade is a semester class.

Generally, sixth graders have 18 credits; seventh graders have 21 credits; and eighth graders 21 credits for each semester. Examples are given below for calculating GPA for each grade level.

Sixth Grade
Grade earned X Credit Value of Class
Language Arts A (4) x 3 =12

PE (qtr) B (3) x 1.5 = 4.5
Art (qtr) C (2) x 1.5 = 3
Computer (sem) B (3) x 1.5 = 4.5
Total 18 credits divided into 51 points earned = 2.83
